Castlehaven (Irish: Gleann Bearcháin) is a civil parish in County Cork, Ireland. It is located some 75 km south west of Cork City on the coast and is made up of two key towns: Union Hall and Castletownshend.[1] The area is famous for Gaelic football with the local Club claiming local and national honours

History

The Irish name Gleann Bearcháin was historically anglicised as Glanbarighan, Glanbaraghan and Glanbarrahan.[2]

Sport

Castlehaven is a Gaelic football club based in Castlehaven, County Cork, Ireland. It participates in Cork GAA competitions. It has won 5 Cork Senior Football Championships in 1989,1994, 2003, 2012 and 2013. It has also won 3 Munster Senior Club Football Championships in 1989, 1994 and 1997, when they were entered even though they had lost the County Final, due to the ineligibility of divisional side Beara.
