José Luis Sanchéz Solá, also known as "Chelís", was born in the city of Puebla, January 31, 1959, and is the former manager of Chivas USA who play in Major League Soccer.

Coaching Career

Puebla

Sola became the coach of Puebla in 2006, and was sacked twice during his tenure, only to be brought back[1] after the players requested his restoration. During his time at Puebla, "Chelis" gained tremendous popularity in Mexican football, having saved the team from being relegated to Primera A, and qualifying for the finals[2] and Interliga for the first time in the club's history.

"Chelís" was publicly supported by the players, front office, and the government of the state led by Mario Marín,[3] since they believed that he was the main reason why Puebla, after over 15 years, had a competitive team again. Sánchez Solá led Puebla to the Clausura 2009. After finishing fifth in the general table, the team eliminated Monterrey in the quarter-finals,[4] but was eliminated in the semi-finals by U.N.A.M..[5]

A few days after the game, he appeared in a political promotion by the Partido Revolucionario Institucional, the political party of Puebla's governor Mario Marín. [6] This resulted in criticism from some Mexican sports casters and others who disagreed with sporting figures getting involved in political campaigns.

Estudiantes Tecos

After a meeting to finalize details, Solá was introduced on November 14, 2010 as the new coach of Estudiantes Tecos. Coupled with this, he acknowledged offers that he had previously received, particularly mentioning the names of Club Atlas, Irapuato FC, and Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz.[7][8]

Chivas USA

On December 8, 2012 he was appointed Chivas USA manager. On May 29, 2013 he was fired as Chivas USA manager.
