Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU), is a university in Uganda, the third-largest economy in East Africa.

Location

The university campus is located at Twed Towers, a skyscraper on Kafu Road, on Nakasero Hill, an upscale neighborhood in Central Kampala, one of the five administrative divisions of Kampala, the capital of Uganda and the largest city in that country. The coordinates of the university campus are:0°19'34.0"N, 32°35'01.0"E (Latitude:0.326111; Longitude:32.583611).[1]

History

UTAMU was founded in 2012, by Venansius Baryamureeba PhD, its founding and current Vice Chancellor.[2] He recruited other lecturers and professors, both locally and internationally, and UTAMU admitted its inaugural class in May 2013, stating with five undergraduate degree courses in business and information technology.[3] The university is accredited by the Uganda Nation Council for Higher Education (UNCHE), the government body that licenses institutions of higher learning in the country.[4]

Academic structure

As of July 2014, the university operates two schools:[5]

  • School of Computing and Engineering
  • School of Business and Management

At a later date two more schools will be established:

  • School of Professional and Vocational Education
  • School of Graduate Studies

Academics

As of July 2014, the university offers the following courses:

Undergraduate Degree courses

In its second year of operation, the university as expanded its undergraduate degree menu from the original five courses to about two dozen courses in business and information technology.[6]

Diploma courses

Diplomas are offered to undergraduate and graduate students in a number of disciplines.

Certificate courses
  • Certificates are offered to undergraduate and graduate students in a number of disciplines.
Postgraduate courses

The university offers the degrees of Masters of Science (MSc), Masters of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in many disciplines in all four schools.
